Self-Review Practice Monitoring Tool
A structured self-review tool to help practising firms assess their quality management policies, procedures, systems, engagement performance and compliance with applicable professional requirements.
A. Legal and regulatory basis
Why this Tool matters
This Self-Review Practice Monitoring Tool supports the Institute’s quality assurance and practice monitoring framework under the Accountants Act, Cap. 531 and the Accountants (Quality Assurance Review) Regulations, Legal Notice No. 146 of 2022.
Regulation 1(1) provides that members of the Institute shall administer a self-review on adherence to quality assurance in line with the self-review practice monitoring tool set out in the First Schedule. The information provided will support the Institute’s pre-review, risk assessment and practice monitoring processes, including the issuance or renewal of annual partner and firm licences.
Important
The information submitted through this Tool is a primary input into the Institute’s pre-review, risk assessment and practice monitoring processes for 2027 licensing.
B. Purpose and objectives
What the Tool helps your firm do
Assess the existence and implementation of quality management policies, procedures and systems.
Provide information on the organisation, governance and management of the firm.
Review engagement performance, supervision, review and documentation.
Identify weaknesses and take appropriate remedial action.
Provide information on the firm’s client profile and other relevant risk factors.
Support risk-based selection and prioritisation of firms for pre-reviews and Cycle AQA reviews.
Identify areas requiring guidance, training, technical support or regulatory follow-up.
Prepare firms for the Institute’s quality assurance review programme.
C. Guidance on completion
Complete the self-review carefully

Complete the Tool accurately, honestly and in full. Responses should reflect the firm’s actual policies, procedures and practices during the period under review.

Answer Yes, No or Not Applicable questions genuinely. Use Not Applicable only where the question does not apply to the firm.

Attach additional information where the space provided is insufficient, clearly referencing the relevant section and question number.

Retain the records and supporting documentation used to complete the Tool and make them available to the Institute when requested.

Completion does not replace a quality assurance review by the Institute. Submitted information may be considered with other information available to the Institute.

Complete the Tool within the required timeline and frequency, and update the Institute when significant changes occur in the firm or information previously submitted.
